Super Green's 'Power House of Nutrition'

Spirulina Blue-Green Algae:
Spirulina is 60% all-vegetable protein. According to standard nutritional tests the digestive absorption of the protein in spirulina and chlorella is 4 (four) times greater than that in beef. It is easy-to-digest and absorb, with the highest food concentration of the antioxidant beta-carotene, iron, vitamin B-12, and the rare gamma-linolenic acid (GLA). Its dark blue-green color comes from the combination of the phytonutrients carotene, chlorophyll, and phycocyanin. It is also an excellent source of polysaccharides, a complex sugar molecule, and sulfoglycolipids, which is a lipid containing carbohydrates. This may explain spirulinas ability to balance blood sugars.
Recent research studies indicate that spirulina may be able to improve immune function, improve liver function, lower serum cholesterol levels, and increase the 'good bacteria' in the gastrointestinal tract, if used regularly. It has also been used in the treatment of anemia, diabetes, hypoglycemia, obesity, overeating, and malnourishment.
Spirulina has a unique cell wall, it is entirely made up of mucopolysaccharides (MPs) These are complex sugars interlaced with amino acids, simple sugars, and in certain instances, protein. This means the cell wall contains only completely digestible nutrients instead of the indigestible cellulose wall common in other micro-algae or plants.
MPs are credited with strengthening body tissue, especially the connective tissues, while making them more elastic and resilient. MPs are used to strengthen the tissues of the heart and protect against artery deterioration. MPs protect the cardio-vascular system by lowering blood fats.
Doctors, scientists, and the general public are becoming increasingly concerned about reports of new viruses, drug-resistant bacteria, and ineffective antibiotics. Scientists are discovering the ability of certain foods to strengthen the immune system, fight the problems associated with aging, and offer protection from degenerative disease. Scientific reports from around the world indicate that spirulina may be one of these disease-preventing, anti-aging foods.
Beyond anti-aging benefits, scents are discovering unusual phytonutrients in spirulina. Spirulina contains the blue pigment phycocyanin, a biliprotein which have been shown to inhibit cancer-colony formation. Phycocyanin helps draw together amino acids for neurotransmitter formation, which increases mental capacity.
Spirulina also has the highest level of the protective antioxidant, beta-carotene, which is beneficial for the eyes and vision. Spirulina also contains, gram for gram, more calcium and magnesium than other foods. These are essential nutrients for healthy skin and strong bones.
Kelp, Laminaria:
This sea plant is referred to as one of the most complete mineral storehouses available in our diet. Kelp is a nutrient rich source of vitamins, especially the B complex vitamins. It is also rich in Vitamin B-12, which is critical for both men and women, to help protect reproductive organs. Studies have shown that Japan's high intake of kelp in their diet is largely responsible for the lower incidence of breast cancer, prostate disorders, obesity, heart disease, infectious disease, arthritis, and digestive problems. Properties in kelp have been shown to help relieve hormone imbalance, improve thyroid function, and the over-all tonicity of the general system.
Kelp is reported to be very beneficial to brain tissue, the membranes surrounding the brain, the sensory nerves, and the spinal cord, as well as the nails and blood vessels. Kelp is an arterial cleansing agent and gives tone to the wall of the blood vessels. It is helpful in some cases of arterial tension (high blood pressure). It also helps to remove deposits from the walls of the arteries, and to restore their elasticity. Kelp is also recommended to tone the prostate gland. It improves the nutrition of the organ and the circulation of the blood through the tissues. Kelp has been used to help painful testicles and painful menstruation and ovaries.
Kelp can be of great help in arthritis and rheumatism. These are due to an excess of certain acids in the system, and usually associated with faulty kidney function plus a deficiency of the sodium salts. People who suffer from these conditions can benefit from kelp, which will help de-acidify the system and provide the necessary salts. The salts also help with liver congestion, sluggish pancreas, and kidney function.
Kelp has also been referred to as a heavy metal magnet. This is due to the fact that kelp contains alginic acid, which combines with metallic elements in the intestines to form insoluble salts, which can then be excreted from the body.
Chlorella:
Sometimes referred to as the 'green blood tonic' and cleanser. Chlorella is the perfect compliment to spirulina. It is very high in nutritional value, but with slightly less protein than spirulina. Chlorella has less beta-carotene, but more than twice the nucleic acid and chlorophyll. Chlorella is reported to be beneficial in cases of anemia, and studies have shown its ability to stimulate the regeneration of tissue, accelerate the healing of wounds, while it inhibits the growth of some tumors.
Chlorella is a 'whole food' that is rich in nutrients such as protein, enzymes, vitamins, minerals, chlorophyll, and most importantly nucleic acids. Chlorella contains more than 20 vitamins and minerals including vitamins B1, B2, B6, B12, C, E, and K, as well as iron, calcium, beta-carotene, biotin, choline, essential fatty acids, folic acid, inositol, niacin, and pantothenic acid. Chlorella has almost 70% protein, and 19 of the 22 amino acids. It is the highest source of chlorophyll, which is a liver detoxifier, bowel cleanser, and a catalyst for the absorption of other elements, including iron
Chlorella is used to stimulate the growth of beneficial bacteria, and to help regulate cholesterol. It improves immune function, has potent anti-viral and anti-tumor activity. It is the highest source of the nucleic acids DNA and RNA, reduced levels of which are believed to contribute to physical deterioration and aging.
Some scientists think chlorella may help to prevent degenerative disease and even slow down the aging process. This is due to the fact that chlorella has a true nucleus, it is a more evolved organism than other common green micro-algae, and may offer superior quality RNA/DNA. The nucleic acid in the human body (RNA/DNA) directs cellular renewal, growth, and repair. Nucleic acid decreases with age and insufficient amounts of nucleic acid can lead to premature aging and a weakened immune system. Restoring the RNA/DNA to adequate levels is critically important for longevity and the overall health of the body as well as the immune system.
The nucleic acid contained in chlorella is measured by the Chlorella Growth Factor (CGF) CGF strengthens immunity by improving the activity of T-and B-cells, which defend against viruses and other microorganisms that may invade the body. CGF also improves the activity of macrophages, which destroys cancer and reduces cellular debris.
Chlorella's cell wall, once thought to be a liability, has been found to be very beneficial. This is due to its ability to bind with heavy metals, or toxic metals, such as lead and mercury. It also binds with pesticides and carcinogens and helps remove these toxins safely from the body. The cell wall also contains a substructure of complex polysaccharides that stimulate interferon production as well as other anti-tumor and immune-enhancing activity.
Chlorella's cell wall is also a useful source of fiber and may be of benefit for detoxifying the colon and for issues of constipation. The tough outer cell, which contains the good fiber, needs to be 'split' during processing to improve the digestibility. If the cell wall isn't split the benefits stay 'locked up', so insist on only split-cell chlorella, it is the only one that works.
Dulse:
Dulse, a purple or red seaweed, is an excellent source of calcium. It is also an extremely rich source of natural, highly assimilable potassium. Dulse is the richest source of assimilable minerals and trace-minerals found to date. It contains each and every one of the minerals and trace-minerals found in the world's oceans as well as the earth's crust. Dulse is rich in manganese, which activates enzyme systems. It is also highly concentrated in iodine, which may be missing from non-coastal diets.
Bladderwrack, Fucus vesiculosis:
Bladderwrack is a member of the kelp family, and while it contains most of the properties, it is used primarily for weight loss.
